SUMMARY:Cole Redhorse Taylor: Ledger Art Debut & Conversation
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nPlease join your host\, Art of the Rural\, on Friday\, April 17th from 6PM – 8PM at the Winona County History Center for a community meal and conversation with Cole Redhorse Taylor Art. \nCole will be debuting a new ledger art piece that takes its inspiration from a ledger artwork in the collection of the Winona County Historical Society that is currently in the process of being returned to the Dakota community. The advent of Cole’s work recognizes this action\, alongside local intercultural efforts in recent years\, as important commitments toward building responsible and durable relationships between the Winona community and Dakota people. We are honored to share Cole’s piece and to offer this opportunity to gather for a meal and conversation. \nFood will be served at 6PM\, followed by a conversation at 6:30PM. This event is free and all are welcome. \nAbout the artist:\nCole Redhorse Taylor is an enrolled member with the Prairie Island Dakota Community\, of the Mdewakanton band. Cole lives and works on his people’s reservation located in the heart of Mni Sota Makoce. \nCole received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting. Cole has worked in many different mediums\, both in customary Dakota art forms such as beadwork\, quillwork and textile work\, as well as with drawing\, painting\, collage\, and digital illustration. Cole’s work is informed by his people’s proximity to their homelands that stories their ancestral ties to it\, spanning since time immemorial. \nCole has works in private collections and also has exhibited at the Minnesota Historical Society\, All My Relations Gallery in Minneapolis\, Red Cloud Heritage Center in Pine Ridge South Dakota\, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum\, and also at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. \n*** \nThis Spillway Fellowship artwork was made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. \nThis Spillway event is made possible through multi-year program support from the The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
